Faire Letter From President

The Fall Street Faire marks the preparation of fall like no other event in Reading.

With estimates of 15,000 attending the much-anticipated event, I was concerned when the Town approached me about the possibility that the Faire could be discontinued due to budget restraints.

Having been involved in the Street Faire since its inception in 2009 as a volunteer, committee member and eventually Chair and having been fortunate to work with talented, dedicated residents, business owners, volunteers and Town staff, I was determined to continue what has become an annual tradition in Reading.

As incoming president of the Reading Rotary Club, I suggested to the Rotary Board that we look into sponsoring the Street Faire. It was important that the Faire continue to be accessible to small business and independent vendors and that we continued to attract the large crowds that have grown on an annual basis.

Rotary stepped up to the plate! What was once accomplished with a team of five to eight people has been embraced by the Club in its entirety, while retaining some of the veteran volunteers and bringing in new talent who are guiding the Club along its first year of transitioning.

Under the management of Event Chair Sheila Clarke, we are happy to say we have attracted over 200 vendors and have over 30 dedicated sponsors.

Come join us on Sunday, September 10, from noon to 5 in downtown Reading.

Brian Snell

2017-2018 President
