9/11 20th Anniversary Writing Contest

Winners Announced!

During the summer of 2021, Reading students  were invited to submit a poem or essay on the theme “Light in the Darkness.” A winner was chosen at each grade level by a panel of eight local judges, who read the entries blind. These three winner will read their writing at a public event on the Reading Common on September 11 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Elementary Winner

Eight-year-old Adeline (Addy) Hillery won with her poem “Hope.” Addy will be entering 3rd grade at Barrows Elementary School this fall.

Middle School Winner

Thirteen-year-old Clara Healy won with her essay “A Sky Full of Stars.” Clara will be entering 8th grade at Parker Middle School this fall.

High School Winner

Abigail LeBovidge won with her poem “Three Hundred Million Candles.”  Abigail will be entering her junior year at Reading Memorial High School this fall.
